Non-Divine. I received it this Saturday and I put it on right away. The CD starts with a text (which I won’t quote… buy the CD if you want to know what I’m talking about), which I know from somewhere, but I can’t place it. While I am listening the biography tells me that Non-Divine are four men from Arnhem, and exists for one and a half year now. According to themselves they make groovy metal. I must say that I agree with this, although some parts are more like groovy rock. But this is fun, it keeps surprising, not so much in high standing musical things, but the different musical influences that are first-class integrated by the band into five songs on their CD “My Obsession”. Swinging mosh riffs are shamelessly followed by cheerful Iron Maiden licks and than an acoustic intermezzo. It also contains a few parts that make me think of pop-music of the late 80’s. Again that… where do I know this from. After listening to the CD a couple of times I think my favourite is the opener “Scar-faced Man”, what I believe to be the most convincing song of the CD. Looking at the fact that Non-Divine only exists for only such a short period of time, there is a lot of good that lays ahead of them (and so for us as well) in the future, and I wish them good luck.
See ya, Sater

What does Onno think of it? Well, he does like this music. I am very pleased concerning the musical variety. What is fun, is that the singer doesn’t just grunt, but is really understandable, yet doesn’t appear to sound soft. This makes me think at the Roosendaalse formation Instinct, who have such vocals, but are slightly more louder and technical. This makes me sound like Non-Divine is not technical, but they are. Although I think that their roots lie more in the hard-rock and Korn corner. This also shows in the reasonably prominent place that the bass player takes in. (Something that you also see with other metal bands). The sound is more like you are used from …core-bands, and the combination feels pretty good, because it definitely adds something to the music. The production can absolutely be called good. All the instruments can be heard perfectly, and the sound effects and samples (!!!) are top! I think “My Obsession” is a nice record, although I personally wouldn’t buy it because it can be a little louder for my taste…
