For the first since a long time a CDemo from a Dutch non-death metal band, which I think will, under the right guidance, make a good CD someday. Non-Divine's 'My Obsession' attracts attention for several reasons between the demos's that normally land on my desk via office box 7. Thanks to the beautiful cover, on which the concept of being locked up in an institution and the grey/blue future image that belongs to that situation are worked out in great detail. But positively also because of the music itself, which is, strange as it may be, a really fine mixture of the new Megadeth, the old Paradise Lost, Pantera and Type O Negative. Finally a band again, that understands that a good song contains more keys than 'E' or 'D' and exists long enough to know that you can also create dynamic levels with clean guitar passages and simply leaving things out. The
melodic, beautifully balanced music sounds reasonably modern, however it has nothing to do with 'Now-Metal'.The most important stumbling block is the vocals of guitarist/band brain
Ivor van Beek. It is to monotonous and strictly speaking to rugged for this kind of well-placed and tastefully assembled songs. There's not much else to complain about the five tracks on this well-sounding CD-R.
