Amsterdam 14-8-2007, Paradiso.
Famous venue "Paradiso", in Amsterdam, has hosted a number of big bands in the past. The time has come to open the doors for another huge group, Queensryche!
"Paradiso" is actually an old church, converted into a concert venue and a club (having an amazing acoustic). Its capacity is about a thousand people. It is just the place for another Mindcrimes' presentation... under regular conditions.
Yet, this tour, and the ones following, are Best Of tours...
Dutch band Non-Divine open up, an exquisite band, giving us a 45 min long set, featuring tracks from their debut, "Asylum 45". By wearing (all of them) psycho inmates white uniforms (following their album concept) and by having a tremendous stage performance, they impressed me a lot, with their progressive grunge metal, which they were perfect at.
Queensryche's stage show was featuring just an enormous black banner, covering the entire space in the back, with a Mindcrime logo at the top and a big Triryche below, in the middle. Unfortunately, Rockenfield's drum kit is not one of his own (RockenWraps)...
"The Whisper" has become Ryche's favorite intro, when Mindcrimes are not involved. Without any prologues, its straight-up edition was the key. With this and "Damaged" following, the audience got started from min one. 90 min set included songs from all albums, except "Hear In The Now Frontier" and "Tribe". The band is in great shape and Tate is innovating, as he's singing, during the first half, holding the mic by its stand, wearing his beret backwards! Jackson on the other hand, didn't miss a single chance to mess with Rockenfield (thru eye-contact naturally)! "Bridge" came as a big surprise, the band hadn't played that one for a long time and the crowd reactions certified that. It was a very good choice to play "Until There Was You", from the Q2Κ remaster, as well as the "The Lady Wore Black" version, based on the unplugged one. Last song of the set was "Empire", while "Walk In The Shadows" (featuring the intro you will hear in "Mindcrime At The Moore"), "Take Hold Of The Flame" and "Jet City Woman", as encores, were the epilogue for another incredible Queensryche show
Eindhoven, 15-8-2007, Effenaar.
The Effenaar is a hyper-modern venue, providing everything you could ever ask in a place like this. Which means, it's perfect for such a concert.
Non-Divine were there again, opening for the Ryche. The sound was more "compressed" and I have the feeling that it was louder than it should. Yet the band played and left us with the best impressions.
Queensryche are even in greater mood tonight. Not because of their performance, such is unchangeable. Their policy to change five songs from the setlist, the very next day, is a unique gesture and it means that the band fully respects its fans. In other words, "The Hands" stepped down for "One Foot In Hell", the continuous "NM 156" and "Screaming In Digital", and "The Needle Lies" a while later, were a hard dilemma for me, concerning which day was the best. Details...
"Silent Lucidity" was the first encore tonite. Followed by "Walk In The Shadows" and "Take Hold Of The Flame".
