March 2007
Last Saturday was an exciting day for the members of Non-Divine. In a well-filled Willemeen the Metal men that invariably dress in white presented their first album: Asylum 45. On such a festive event the audience should be completely warmed up before starting the main course, and thusly the Belgian After All and Mindless from Nijmegen also traveled to Arnhem. The standard of both bands is not really high, but the atmosphere is pounded in immediately. And that’s their job. So, mission accomplished.
And then the moment has arrived. The men in white enter the stage, the crowd awaits in anticipation and boom! Non-Divine immediately proves why Aardschok magazine made their album CD of the month. It’s metal, but with a twist. After the standard thrashing of After All some metalheads most likely didn’t suspect Non-Divine to offer more than just screaming and trying to pull the cords off of the guitars. That’s clearly noticeable due to the fact that with some regularity people slunk away during the gig. Non-Divine even manages to make a melodic whole of it: swinging, grooving and even intelligible.
The ten guys that left the Willemeen prematurely should stand in a corner and feel ashamed of themselves. Even though there is no moshing in a pit, the audience is mesmerized, watching and especially listening to this fresh breath of air in metal land. A fresh breath that proves to be rather fiery half-way through the gig. So fiery that the flames literally rise from the stage. A sight that you’d expect on a larger stage and is rather surprising for a small venue like Willemeen, but at the same time makes you realize that Non-Divine is ready for the serious stuff.
