Non-Divine - Asylum 45
Label: Rusty Cage Records
Year of release: 2007
It’s not that easy to put a decent label on Non-Divine. Their sound is too diverse for that and contains references to various bands like Metallica (the harder songs of Load), Pantera (their softer songs), Nickelback (the somewhat nagging but catching choruses) and Galactic Cowboys (the groove). Let’s just say they play melodic rock/metal.
And for a debuting band they do a damn good job. I’m not going to claim that Non-Divine is the latest revelation in the world of loud music, but their firstling Asylum 45 is convincing to start off with. The guitar work is fine, and the voice of singer Ivor van Beek doesn’t get boring. The artwork is also finished off nicely and the lyrics dealing about patients in a mental hospital are simple, but effective. The songs could be somewhat sharper and a real big ‘hit’ is missing as yet. A good advice: don’t exclusively focus on the metal crowd, because the young TMF rock crowd will definitely like the taste of a song like One Man, One Soul.
