Non-Divine
Asylum 45 (Rusty Cage)

They’re here! The winners of the Metal Bash 2005 finally released their debut album. What’s more, they made a concept Album out of it. And just like when the band performs live, they take it seriously. At least music-wise. Yes, it grooves like a tit and yes, the music is drenched in melody. Beautiful choruses, add a strong – in some cases almost Metallica-like – groove, and you’re done. It even sometimes reminds of Waltari (in particular the choruses) from the early nineties. Furthermore, the album contains super strong, bordering on too sweet-sounding part-song, beautiful guitar effects and simply good songs. Occasionally Dream Theater-like (not as technical by far, but with the melancholy melodies), but also a Queensr˙che- like intermezzo (‘Love Loss’). These will undoubtedly be the bands that the band members would name as their heroes. Of course this kind of music sounds dated from time to time (the screaming lead guitars and the bravura for instance), but when it’s done well, a new audience for this kind of rock/metal could be tapped into. With its controlled aggression Non-Divine is absolutely an asset to metal in the Netherlands.
