One of the first bands that played during Arnhem for Asia was the groovy metal band Non-Divine. After a long silence, which lasted for nearly all of 2004, the band rears its head again in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region. It was certainly not the last gig in this area.
The coming two weeks Non-Divine gives a near-overkill of no less than three gigs in Nijmegen. That's mere coincidence. We figured we'd better accept this fate. It's quite a challenge to do a Nijmegen-tour. Our bass-player lives in Nijmegen, we've got lots of fans over there, but haven't played there in quite a while. We're anxious to start playing.
Non-Divine was founded in 1999 and quickly proved to be a bull's-eye shot. The first demo 'my obsession' made it possible for the band to play in Paradiso and 013 in 2001, only two years later. In 2003 the band won Ernem zweet (thusly dubbed best band of the city Arnhem that year), and was critically acclaimed by Oor magazine as best band of the trolleymetaal tour.
Some Non-Divine tracks can be found on metal-compilation-cd's, but there's no full-length album yet. However, the My Obsession demo did feature one song of the forthcoming album about a lunatic asylum (Sympathy). Confronted with the question what's taking so long? Ivor van Beek replies: We prefer a strong debut that takes a long time over an album that's put together in a hurry and doesn't sound like the rest of the material.
The concept album is going to be called 'Asylum 45', has been produced, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen in his own studio in Denmark. The album consists of movie-like compositions that tell the stories of a number of psychiatric patients. Each patient has its own personality, which fits the music. We find it much more interesting to use a concept. It deepens the lyrics and makes everything a lot more exciting.
The debut had some delay with the mastering. The latest news however is that the master has been given green light. Non-Divine is currently looking for a label to release 'Asylum 45'. It will take some time before it hits the shelves. "Just be (a) patient", Ivor van Beek says. Anyway, the upcoming Nijmegen gigs are a nice appetizer for the fans.
Non-Divine can be seen on the 28th of January in Gonzo, 29th of January during the Diogenes fundraiser and the 13th of January in Staddijk.
